The Indians Off to an Okay Start
April 11, 2014
The Cleveland Indians were looking forward to the new season, considering they made playoffs last year. Even though it was the wild card game and they lost, it still gave them and the city of Cleveland hope for the future.
The Indians’ first game was against the Oakland A’s and it was a rather exciting opening day. The game was tied all the way up to the ninth inning when the Indians scored two runs, giving them a 2-0 lead, and the win as well. They ended up winning two games out of the three game series, giving them a 2-1 record to start off the season. “I was excited for the Indians. I could see they had a lot of fight in them, “ said junior Clay Ahlman.
Their home opener had finally arrived for the Indians as they were facing the Minnesota Twins. The Twins had a record of 1-2, losing their first two to the Chicago White Sox. The Indians felt confident going into this game. It also helped that they had a winning record and finally had their home crowd to cheer them on.
“I was pumped for the home opener. I couldn’t wait to watch them play at home again,” said senior Joe Connick. The Indians started off flat, but pulled away in the end thanks to a huge homerun by Nick Swisher. They ended up winning the game 7-2, but lost two out of the three games played against the Twins.
“It was disappointing to see them lose those last two games. Hopefully they can pick it up,” said junior Danny Komertz. The San Diego Padres will be the Indians’ next opponent and they are hoping to start a winning streak in order to get them back on track. Hopefully they do end the streak , and can do some damage this year in the MLB.
