The NFL playoffs are in full swing. The first week of the playoffs, or the Wild Card round, brought fans exciting games. Three of last weeks winners, the New Orleans Saints, the Indianapolis Colts, and the San Francisco 49ers, all won their respective games on last minute drives. The three teams won by 3 points or less. The only blowout win was the San Diego Chargers beating the Cincinnati Bengals, 27-10.
Last week, the Colts had to fight back from being 28 points down at halftime to come back and win by one point against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers and Saints both had last second field goals in order to beat the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, respectively.
“I was really surprised that the Chargers won, and did it so easily,” said junior Ryan Doyle.
With this weeks set of games, fans are expecting more of the late-game heroics. In the National Football Conference, or NFC, the Saints travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks, while the 49ers head to Carolina to play the Panthers. On the American Football Conference, or AFC, the Colts are going to Foxboro, Mass., to play the New England Patriots. The Colts are heading to Denver, where they will meet with divisional rival, the Broncos.
“I feel like quarterback Andrew Luck and the Colts will beat Tom Brady and the Patriots this week,” said sophomore Andrew Pikus.
The championship, or Super Bowl, is going to be held February second I the meadowlands, New Jersey. The team that comes out on top from both conferences will battle it out to call themselves world champs.
According to Las Vegas odds makers, the Seattle Seahawks have the best odds at 5/2 odds to win the NFC and the Super Bowl. The Denver Broncos have the best odds at 13/5 to win the AFC and Super Bowl. Students and staff have their own ideas on who is going to win the Super Bowl.
Junior Joey Grippes is going with the odds in the Broncos winning it all. Resident sports guru Ty Merkle has different thoughts.
“I think the Broncos and the 49ers will make it to the Super Bowl, but the 49ers are going to be the team that comes out on top.”
