Chardon, get ready for another spooktacular Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. This year, Trick-or-Treating for the Chardon area will be from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. With huge numbers of locations to go to and growing numbers of little ghouls and goblins running around, it is important to remember to stay safe and never go alone. Over the years Halloween festivities have gotten much safer. Many years ago, the worries consisted of razor blades caramel apples and scary kidnappers. Nowadays, communities are very protective with our little ones. Caution should always be advised. One tip to have a fun and safe Halloween, never take any homemade treats. There have been instances where some people have poisoned cookies and other home baked goods. Never accept rides from strangers. If you do not know a person that is offering you a ride, you should not trust them. Adding on to that, you should always make sure that there is more than one person in your group. Never travel alone. While children love to run around from house to house, roads are still open and cars still go through the streets. Staying on the sidewalk as much as possible can not only keep you more safe, but will also make it easier on those that have to drive. Candy is such fun to collect but even if it is factory packaged, it could still be tampered with. Before ingesting any sugary goods, the individual pieces must be checked for any signs of tampering to ensure that it is safe to eat. It would also be advised to wear some form of reflective sticker to ensure that even in the shadow of darkness, you can still be seen.
Halloween safety has always been important to the community of Chardon. To make sure that everyone has a good time, be polite and do not run from house to house or across streets. If costumes have any hanging accessories make sure that they are picked up for the safety of everyone around you. Carrying a flashlight can also be helpful since around Halloween it starts to get dark by 6:30. The predicted forecast so far for the night is cloudy with slight showers in the early morning to mid afternoon. It would be advised to bundle up as the low is predicted to be 40 degrees. The most important part to remember for this Halloween is to stay safe and have an amazing time walking around, eating candy, and spending time with family and friends.
