Cleveland Cavaliers Make Some Moves In a Three-Way Trade
January 13, 2015
Last night, the Cleveland Cavaliers took part in a three way trade, which also involved the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the New York Knicks. The Knicks were looking for a change, considering their 5-32 start to the season is not exactly what they were hoping for. The Cavaliers were also looking for a change. They are now on a three game losing streak and need some type of boost to get them back on track. The Thunder also have not had a very good start to the season either. They need someone to provide valuable minutes off the bench for them. So, each of these teams got what they were looking for. The Knicks acquired three players from the Cavs, each of them are only on a one year contract, and none of them are very valuable to the team. The Cavs obtained shooting guard, Iman Shumpert, and guard J.R. Smith. Lastly, the Thunder acquired shooting guard, Dion Waiters from the Cavs.
The Cavs now have, some may say, two better guards than what they previously had. “I love this trade. I think it is exactly what the Cavs needed,” said teacher Ty Merkle. Shumpert will be the starter for the Cavs, while Smith will be a spark off the bench. As for the other teams, may not be as excited. The Knicks mainly did this trade to clear cap space for the future. And the Thunder now have Dion Waiters, who is known to be kind of a selfish player, and he is playing alongside one of the most selfish players in the league, Russell Westbrook. So it is hard to say how that will work out for the Thunder. “Both the Knicks and the Thunder did not benefit as well as the Cavs did in this trade,” said senior Dillon Coughlin.
Only time will tell as to whether these teams made good decisions or not. As the All-Star break approaches, each of these teams look to go on a winning streak before the halfway point. All aspects of this trade have their advantages and disadvantages. We will have to wait and see how they play out for each team. As of now, there is no telling of what will happen.
