Due to her adamant commitment to community throughout high school, Sarah Fisher is being recognized with the Hilltop Echo Top 7 award for citizenship.
She has been a member of student council for all four years, helping with each and every homecoming and promenade as well as countless other activities. This past year, she was elected the vice president of student council and president of activities council. Sarah was nominated into National Honor Society her sophomore year and has continued to volunteer her time and effort to service. Besides Student Council, National Honor Society and Activities Council, she is also exceedingly passionate about Interact Club. Sarah is also involved with AFS Intercultural Program at Chardon. During the year, Sarah occasionally drove Sofia Guidi to social events.
Margaret Fisher talked about her sister’s internship at the Geauga Hospital Pediatric Ward. “She does it all,” said senior Jessica Parker, one of Sarah’s closest friends, “She often ends up not having much free time because she signs up for so much.” Senora Niedzwiecki, who Sarah eloquently spoke about at Senior Awards Night, commented, “She goes about things so passionately, that it may be taken as up tight, but she just believes in doing it right and giving all you can.”
It is no surprise that fondest memories of Sarah involved community service events. “We were organizing Homecoming this year,” said senior Maddy McCluskey,” We just got so stressed and became and became really close.” “Maddy and her made a song, ‘the Twelve Days of Homecoming’, which is displayed in Grantham’s classroom,” senior Elsa Hammer commented, “They spent countless hours preparing for Homecoming Week.”
Parker shared a memory from Relay for Life: “We were both exhausted and her feet hurt really bad from walking so much,” and added, “it was funny.” Senior Jessica Mysyk also remembered a Relay for Life event and said, “There were two Chardon teams: a team of 16 and us [Sarah Fisher, Jessica Parker, Cameron Macaskill, and myself].” “When I had mono,” explained senior Jill Allenby, “Sarah brought me Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and some magazines.” Senior Lindsey Poyar recalled, “We went on mission trips together three years in a row through the Fowlers Mill Christian Church.” Senior Christie McFarland talked about a more recent memory, the Physics Cedar Point trip, “We are Ride Warriors for life.”
Niedzwiecki told of how Sarah had brought her a Downton Abbey t-shirt and their shared love of the show. Ever since Sarah’s freshman year, the two have been very close. Niedzwiecki recalled that Sarah had all the same qualities as she has now except that she was more timid. “Maturity is the biggest difference,” commented Niedzwiecki, “She can take on multiple tasks and handle them all with ease because she has learned how to prioritize.” During Sarah’s speech, Niedzwiecki recalled seeing flashing memories of Sarah as an awkward freshman and visions of her as a doctor.
Anyone who has met Sarah Fisher can attest that she is rather softly spoken and one of the kindest people at Chardon high school. For her Senior Project, Sarah has made multiple dishes from around the world to share with the entire class. McCluskey said, “She’s such a great person and always strives to brighten other people’s day.” Parked said, “Overall, Sarah is just an awesome person, she’s really friendly and does all she can to benefit the community.” Niedzwiecki used the following words to describe Sarah: dedicated, caring, thoughtful and diligent.
Next fall, Sarah will be attending DePaulUniversity in Chicago, Illinois where she will major in pre-med.
