Over the years, there have been a few different types of “seniors vs. faculty” games, including basketball and more recently volleyball. However, this year will bring some new excitement to the intense match up between the seniors by introducing the first game of seniors vs. faculty dodge ball.
After seeing the great success that the newly introduced dodge ball tournament ran by NHS the past two years, the school has decided that a dodge ball game between the seniors and faculty would be a great way to change things up a bit from the usual basketball game.
Instead of raining threes on their adversaries, the dodge ball game will provide teachers and students with the opportunity in which they have been waiting for quite some time. With permission, they can finally pelt the teacher that gave them a C, or that certain student that just never listened.
Without mentioning any names, senior Roger Davis has some motivation to get some of his teachers back on the court. “There are definitely a few issues that will be cleared up by me, with a dodge ball, next Friday,” said Davis. “I strongly believe I should have done better in a couple classes.”
As made apparent by Davis, the seniors have already started their trash talk on the teachers. Many seniors believe that the teachers are afraid of them. When asked why he was not playing in the game, Mr. Brown blamed it on his “bad back. Plus, I wouldn’t want to embarrass anyone.”
Yes, dodge ball is a dangerous game. However, the adrenaline rush of dodging a ball flying at your face draws in many seniors to this exciting alternate to a basketball game, where all of a sudden everyone thinks they are Kobe Bryant. “I would have dominated the basketball game without a doubt,” said senior Jeff Vlk, “but dodge ball just won’t be fair for my opponents.”
Senora Tekavec believed that the students would be thrilled by this change, and that theory turned out to be correct. The enthusiasm by the seniors to join in on the game was great, and the sign-up sheet for senior boys was filled up with over 30 players within only ten minutes.
On Friday, April 19, dodge balls will be thrown, dives will be made, and blood, sweat and tears will be shed. But most importantly, bragging rights will be earned by the victor.
Who will prevail in this battle between seniors and faculty? Senior Ben Furlich was certain the seniors would dominate and take home the victory. “There will be pain,” said Furlich. “And it won’t be felt by the seniors.”
